Writing Better Character Descriptions
Writing Better Character Descriptions
We writers have a particularly tough job: bringing nonexistent people (our characters) to life in our readers’ imaginations. While it’s never easy, we usually accomplish this magic by writing each character with two qualities in mind:
1) Their personality
2) Their physical appearance
Personality is usually expressed through characterization, and appearance through physical description. Admittedly, that doesn't sound so complicated.
But there are two things I’ll suggest today: first, that description needs to do more than just craft appearance, and second, it’s good characteriz
The (very, very basic) Dot Zombie games I made a while back have been unavailable since Lulu ceased their digital file hosting, and I've been asked a few times about when they'll be back.
Well; I finally got around to putting them on one of my websites.
So, should you want to play either the original Dot Zombie or Dot Zombie 2.5 (A much better version of the crawlingly slow "2"), you can nab them from here (free): http://www.soloendeavour.com/Dot_Zombie_Games.zip

"I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world."

I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do
They're really saying I love you
Enjoy the seasons...
Lean on...
enjoy the company of those around you...
and hope for a better tomorrow...
and not this....

:bulletblue: What is a Custom Adoptable?
It's an adoptable commission that is created using a pre-set lineart or base and the colours/patterns of the adopter's choice.
:bulletblue: How do I start making Customs?
Starting is easy enough, you just have to decide that you have the time to do them and be willing to work with another person to produce something together. A custom is not unlike a collaboration after all, you'll just be doing all the "arm-work".
:bulletblue: How do I make it easy for myself?
First: Be prepared!
(Only works with programs that support layers)
The fastest way to "make it easy" is to prepare beforehand. This mean

Movies featuring the latest in high tech digital effects, eye-popping CGI environments and ear-splitting surround sound, are often described as “pushing the envelope.” But they’re mega-million-dollar productions that are delivered back to the studios by the filmmakers precisely as pre-ordered. Rarely is there danger of disaster, so what envelope has been pushed?
“Envelope-shredder” might be a better designation for Brian Taylor...

Critiques: The artist's worst nightmare....
Or so it is often thought. But it should never be.
(Please note, I'm not necessarily talking about deviantart's critique system, though this certainly applies to it. I'm talking about all feedback, whether in comments or notes, in person, or on another site. Deviantart simply has a good format for others to leave feedback to an artist.)
In art school, you tend two get two different types of young artists: people who are infatuated with their work, and people who have no confidence in it at all. But really, it all boils down to the same thing: as artists, we are incredibly reliant on other people's judgement of our work for our self-este

Update: the winner has been announced! http://roseonthegrey.deviantart.com/journal/Winner-Announced-for-Raffle-Win-400-Points-297598524

Rule: Fav :+fav: this journal entry
Prize: 400 points
Ending: 4/21/12 (one week from now)
On the 21st, I will use a random number generator to randomly select a number x uniformly distributed from 1 to the number of favs the journal has (so every fav has an equal chance of winning). If you are the lucky deviant be the xth fav, then you win the 400 points.
